I noticed that a long time ago. I wonder what would be the in-game explanation for how the portal can "remember" which of the sublocations the player left.

I noticed it in the very first playing. :P
Because, after entering 628, I made experience: will I appear in alternate location if I teleport from alternate location, or not.

Maybe it would be because both locations don't exist simultaneously, you can only have either the white version or the red version of 628. So when you have the white version, the red version doesn't exist and you can't teleport there, and vice versa.
