I have a bad feeling about this...

I recall that the Sky9 (random Flash game dev team) forums got so cluttered with spambots everywhere that there were literally dozens of new spam threads every hour. They had to give stickies to the most popular GD threads and leave them floating there, above the sea of spam. The forum eventually got shut down, unsurprisingly.

Gah, that's just terrible. We don't need no floodbots, we should bring back the manual registration method if possible.

Have you been over the last 2 Spamageddons? We lived such situations here before.

EDIT: as an anti-spam measure we could turn back to the old manual activation for new accounts, if there is a way for mods to do that.

found this http://serverfault.com/questions/193778 ... istrations
I don't think that works as good anymore, I heard they pay people to fill the captchas and complete the registration before the bots take over.

Maybe, if new accounts would not be able to create new topics until, I don't know, a day or a post? That would at least thwart some of the spam.

I joined after the second one ended, or sometime close, and the manual confirmation method was still up. Good ol' "send Mateusz an e-mail and he'll hook you up with cool people".

OH. THIS level of manual confirmation. Ok, this could work.

Well, it's not exactly "send Mateusz" an e-mail, but still. I don't think the influx of newcomers is so high that it would become bothersome, you know?

exactly, there aren't so many real new users compared to spammers so it would be easy to handle.

if AK is too busy there should be a way for mods to approve the new account once we get an email, but I don't know if that's possible.

If you send message to AK via PM, then you have to use alternate way: he didn't read my message for more than month.

So, do you, mods, have any instruments to change registration system?

no, the only thing we can do is delete messages & ban users as far as I know.
Where is ak, has someone been able to contact him?
