So you are suggesting we abandon half the so-called 'useless crap and procrastination" threads?
Would it not be easier to (in hope that this forum doesn't end up as clogged as the old one) pass new thread submissions via the rest of the community?

Well, I'm not necessarily suggesting that, yet I certainly have abandoned such threads myself. I think you do what you want, but if you would like to keep an interesting discussion thread going, or set of them, I think the guidelines we've discussed so far are a good step towards that.

(Sorry to jump in, but) I agree with what Babylon and Redafro has said – that we can create a new thread if it's necessary. That should prevent this thread clogging up with a constant subject while also restraining the creation of threads that would have a conversation that dies out quickly.

So, a second Meditations thread but focusing on one particular subject?
I'm not sure if that's necessary though.

Exactly, if it is necessary, we create the thread; if it isn't, we don't.

Now we only need to agree on what counts as "necessary".

Probably if a discussion lasts more than a certain number of pages.(Eg. 5-7 pages)

More likely if a subject (e.g. politics) seems to reoccur commonly. A discussion can easily last 5-7 pages (just look at this discussion – it's already close to that) but can they quickly end and not be brought up again.

Good point. So now we just see if a topic like that comes up, we make a thread.
Seems like a good idea, such threads exist in the theories and suggestions forum.
Now see what everyone else thinks.

So now that we've established some guidelines, rules and principles, maybe we should make the next step – actually discuss something that is not discussing about discussing. So, does anyone have an interesting topic to bring up?
What comes to mind now is for instance the position of languages in the modern world. Will English become the only language over time, or what will happen? Is this good or bad? Obviously there are economic benefits here, but otherwise I view linguicide in negative light.
