I wonder what would happen if you dunked your head under.
No, really. :)

Look up. Use the light rock.
See what texture the walls are.
And if it's safe to dunk your head, get the light rock and see if there is a hatch below the liquid.

You look around, but only see a closed door.

You take your light rock out and look up while touching a wall to find out its texture.
You see a flat circular ceiling, but no way out that you know of:

Also, you notice the walls feel smooth, like very polished rock or metal.
And if it's safe to dunk your head, get the light rock and see if there is a hatch below the liquid.
You figure that since you and Snarr aren't being harmed by the water, and there isn't anything dangerous in the water it they weren't in danger already, you dunk your head in the liquid with the light rock.
You don't see a hatch, but you see a depression in the floor:

You get the funny shape thingy from earlier into the hole:

It fits perfectly.
You get up and see that the door in the wall has opened, revealing a flight of stairs:

Go up the stairs
You don't see a hatch, but you see a depression in the floor:
For some reason I've never been able to see the image below that statement

Take a closer look at what's on the desk, then figure out what that thing on the right is.

Take a closer look at what's on the desk, then figure out what that thing on the right is.
You look at the desk:

You see a keyboard of some sort without any symbols on the keys, a blank screen, three buttons, and four levers with some characters labelling them. You note that the one with the "6" symbol is pushed down.
Next you look at the thing on the right:

It looks like a kind of mechanism consisting of gears and a piston.
