First ask Taruka why it wouldn't be unlocked.
Ask Taruka where it leads, and its purpose. If he can't say:
Ask the person by the big door where is leads and its purpose, and even if he can't answer, ask if they could go through the little door behind him and into that room. (Probably a control room)

First ask Taruka why it wouldn't be unlocked.
Ask Taruka where it leads, and its purpose.
60: Why wouldn't it be unlocked?
Taruka: The door is locked as a kind of protection. You saw those Alpan ships when we crashed, right?
60: Yes. So?
Taruka: By now, the ships would have arrived here and are attacking the base. If the Alpan forces attack the courtyard and landing areas on the other side of the door, then the doors would stop them storming the supply areas, weapons caches and the like in our area.

Did you read the second bit?
(I didn't say they already did those things, and besides, this is a military base you're in, it's bound to be prepared for these things.
And you'd think I'm going to lead you all to a dead end like that, after all this?)

Good point, and i got the order of operations wrong ;)

Okay, Snarr: go investigate the hollow in the wall behind you
60 and Taruka: Go to the smaller door guarded by the soldier. Ask for permission to go in.

Snarr: go investigate the hollow in the wall behind you

Unfortunately, the hollow is closed by a steel door.
60 and Taruka: Go to the smaller door guarded by the soldier. Ask for permission to go in.
You and Taruka go to the soldier and ask:
60: Can we enter through the door behind you?
Soldier: Yes, you may pass.
