Why you look at the sun

When I was a little kid my mother told me not to stare into the sun. So once when I was six I did. The doctors didn't know if my eyes would ever heal.

Sun is percieved as yellow during daytime in earth.
Thats because the blue color of the day-sky acts as a filter.

Yeah, but what is perceived as yellow is not the sun disc but the surrounding "halo", so you could see the sun as yellow by looking indirectly. It probably has something to do with contrast too.

But the sun disc itself is white (except at sunset/sunrise).
