well, we have seen portal-type mechanics in Sub3, Sub4, Sub5, Sub7 and Sub8, so it could be another one. or something else
if Mateusz had the idea right now, that means it wasn't planned from the beginning, so probably it won't affect the plot much (though I could be wrong)... but it could be many things, that's as far as I can deduct XD
EDIT: it would be cool to have a time machine, for example, or... a mini-map device that lets us change the layout of rooms in order to advance (like the elevator map of Sub6) or... I don't know, there are endless possibilities

If its something releted only to the Temple then it doesn't affects the plot, similar way for Sub5 Root Transporters.
But yeah, PURE AWESOME
