No, you have a choice, fiddle around with the items in your inventory, or use the grappling hook to get to the other ledge(and escape).

This game gets more awesome by the second!

Try inserting the cube from the Inventory in an open slot for it. Maybe look on the Cube Reader to see where it belongs.

As stated before, the speaker cube won't fit, but the dark cube does; so you put it in and...
