I mean, how can you play it un-atmospheric?

sorry, I should explain.
atmospheric let's play is when you play as you're inside game itself. :)

Atmospheric is when you focus all your sences in the game, when you focus in the sounds, ambiences and environment of the game. Contrary to casual, rushed, "play to win" playing.

And so they spoke and reveled in their stories. Of this eyeless warlord who brought a sack of cut off hands of sinners to a field Conjunction. Of the girl who slept furiously, a multitude of dreams at once, who not only walked, but ran in her sleep, not just spoke, but commanded; led her armies to victory over the heretic preachers. Of a grand thief who, once finally captive, stole himself from prison, and snuffed the stuff of legends; the one who estabilished the cult of the Vigil of the Eighth Day, according to which the Grand Thief shall come and steal everyone, all of the world, into His primaeval loot stash. Of the myriads of worlds in which Yin overrules the Yang, and Shuang rules over Zhao together with Qing and Xian, rendering them barren and arid, unlivable, desolate, dead, by means of philosophical constants. Of oh, how horrible was the Infinite War, and how long it lasted, in the grand scheme of things. Of the chains bound by men. Of dilation and trickling in all directions, of swelling mists and fogs above and below, fueled by bog.

Would you say that the very first playthrough of a Submachine game is usually rather rushed?

my first game playings for each new game are always atmospheric.
unfortunately, for 50% of people, first playing is rushed running with endless usages of walkthrough, hints and clues due to "lack of time". :'(

For me it's like when I read a book. My first play is at a normal pace (if I do it too slowly I don't enjoy it as much. I go for the speed that feels more natural to me. I guess you can call it "atmospheric" because I'm in a immersed phase) and the second play is where I look for all secrets, trying to understand all the subtle details about the plot and exploring everything I could have missed (the analyzing phase).

I understand now...
all your phases happens during my first playing. I can play 20 hours, but each minute makes me ENJOY game, because I'm "inside". :D
That's what I do since Submachine 6.

I guess our minds work differently. I don't know if I could play a single game for 20 hours nonstop, though I may have come close at times XD
