Wait, I got an idea about that room, what if the wall is immaterial ?Ie. you can chuck a stone straight through it.

That led me to think...

to hold the items in the inventory the Player has to have some container to hold them, especially in games with many items to hold.
We know the player is material because we know it has a head from Submachine 8.
We know the inventory is material because the scanner notices the items on it at the beginning of Submachine 6.
So the player must have something where he puts all those items. now we know something more about him/her :B

News flash, I figured that out a long time ago, maybe (s)he has a backpack or satchel or something.

Well, I use to think that in pnc games the inventory is immaterial (sometimes they pick big things that wouldn't fit in any bag, like tables or mountains), but it looks like it's not the case in Submachine because of Sub6 scanner. I just had the idea now :P
