Anyway, try to insert one of your item from inventory into slot.

And also, you mentioned about "glowing piece of wood that looks like it fell from behind of the cupboard leaving the wall visible". What is it? Did you pick it up?

You put a coin in the slot.

The glowing piece of wood is still there. It looks lıke you can reattach to the wall...

Also, carefully reattach piece of wood to cupboard...

You reattach the wood. Nothing happens when you insert the coin but makes a sound when you shake the device. Its fun to shake it. You get 10 fun points which have no effect on anything. Ok lets get serious.
You press the button. As you press the button your screwdriver disappears. The button is glowing blue now.

You open the cupboard and the back of the cupboard seems to be deattached. There is metal plate on the wall. It can be removed by a screwdriver. If you had one!...

As I understand, if you return to darkness with alien device, you will have screwdriver, but metal plate will disappear?

Well, in that case... use knife as screwdriver!
