The problem I see with religions is problably their closed point of view of the existence, thats because they born in times where humans where starting to explore the world in they where living.

My idea of how most religions born is that every Being, place, or event descripted in them existed once in long time, the fact is that there was no writing at those times, so the data was transmited generation by generation oraly. Since a single person can't remember well the data when transmited oraly, some people had to invent or exaggerate the attributes of such Beings, places, or events; and thus stuff considered fantastic, divinal or magical are born. Stories become Legends, Legends become Myths, Myths become Religion.

Here's an example:

In a tribe where everyone is 1.60m tall, a person 1.75m tall is born. They will obviosly being surprised, to much that they will want to pass this incredible date to their next generations, problem is that they don't have writing, so they could only do oraly. After 5 generations people will not remember well the event as they didn't to see it, so they will say that this guy was tall, tall like a tree maybe, and as more generations pass upon the time, they will start to believe this dude was a giant, big as 50 person one above other.

The funny thing about this thread is that it starts out being completely random BS.

Of course, we're too intellectual for that, and it evolves into intellectual discussion of various topics, much like the Off Topic thread.

This is the ONE THREAD where we don't need any intellect at all, and we can't even be stupid when we're supposed to.
