What happened? hackers wanting to become admins themselves?

Because that's what happened on the last MC server I played on. Some guy came and told us that the server security was extremely weak. He pretty much threatened to upload child porn on the host's computer and then denounce him if we wouldn't let him become admin and "fix the security".

Nothing happened after all, but he would have been the loser either way because everyone made screenshots when he wrote that in the chat. *facepalm*

Though, do minecraft screenshots carry any weight? I mean, the particulary digital nature of that game's graphics allows it to be shopped tracelessly. Of course, then you'd have to distribute the fabrication among the entire playerbase and make sure there's not a single trace of that either, so I suppose it's useful.

I don't like this inactivity. We should do something about it.

Well, Error is out for a while and WIQ has been struck by an EMP, so that explains part of the inactivity here.

Its not just that man. Its the community as a whole. Not just those few of us who are still active. What about the others, there are 138 members here and maybe 8-10 are active.

What about new members joining and commenting? Why hasn't this taken place, sure we've had two new arrivals, Collin and SaintJon, but still.

This place is dead, we're the only ones left. I bet within a year, not a single person will bother logging on. Heck there are times, where this forum goes days, without any logins.

And I blame several reasons. One is obviously Mateusz, who decided to cut us out of his social media life. Never bothered to just hand the community over to someone else and keep things the way they were. He could have kept his little fan club on Facebook and Twitter, left us alone, let us thrive as a community detached from his. Best of both worlds. Yes I guess you can say I harbor a tad bit of dislike for him. Yes he restored my 523 room, but I do have the right to dislike things he does, and removing us like he did, its something that I dislike. He could have done it a lot better, and more smoothly. The constant jumping around forum to forum to forum, is what also killed our community. I bet at least 75% of those accounts on this forum, can't even access their accounts anymore, because they don't remember the password, because the last forum used generated passwords that got sent to you during registration. This one? There is no generated password.

I get it, the dude wants to focus on his games, his comics. He wants financial support, which is the reason he got that Paetron whatever it is. I also like to think that the forum was a financial burden on him too. Which is understandable but there are others here who are quite capable of handling that, and handling the day to day operations of this forum.

Instead he just gives the database over to Soullock and goes "HUR HUR HUR HOPE YOU CAN MAKE IT WORK *PULLS PLUG*"

And you know Matt, if you read this and get upset, the only person you should be upset with is yourself. Because this is on you. You decided to act like that, and what, do you think people are going to keep quiet about it? I guess that's what it is. We went beyond your vision of what a community is, and you decided to cut us out of your fan club, because we shattered your perfectionist ideals.

Another reason I blame is Submachine. This community was built upon that. Back in 2005? There was nothing else. Not Daymare Town, Not Covert Front, 10 gnomes, Fog Fall, Morbid, Space Oddity. None of that existed! The only thing that existed was the squirrel family. Hell Revolutions 2 hadn't even been put on paper yet!

Then came Submachine. And that is how this community has survived. And now its ending. And so are we. Why? Because we've refused to build our community around other things. We never bothered to extend the building to Daymare Town or Covert Front or anything else. If anything, we are #3 in the list of reasons.

Another reason? Social media. Facebook, Twitter, they all have taken precedence over message boards. We are an obsolete form of communication. Its much easier to comment on Mateusz's facebook without having to register another account, verify an email address, pick a username, do this do that. All you have to do, is log into your facebook, go to MateusSkutnik and say "Hey dude!" and if you're lucky, you'll get a response!

Trust me when I say it, I have a lot of pent up words to say, that are two years overdue. I'm not going to sit here and flame and troll, but I do have an opinion and I plan on using it!

There is definitely a seed of truth in that. Well, more like a flourishing shrubbery. There are a lot of factors that have lead to this point and having to move forums and the advent of other social media definitely are the main factors why there aren't new users coming in.

Add to that the fact that during ten years people have outgrown Submachine and the community. Submachine has changed a lot and our community has aged. People are studying and have jobs.

On the other hand moping about it won't do much good, but then, there is very little good to be done anymore.
