Re: rant board
My dad told me off for using the headphones to listen to music.
I told him the laptop speakers are terrible, but he doesn't want to hear it.
So now I'm stuck with shit quality.Nevermind, the music is still good:

Re: rant board
Why does he not like you wearing headphones? What could possibly be a reason for him to not like people using those. I hate people who don't use them. I don't want to hear your shitty music! (not specifically you, but you get the idea)
As for the sleeping weird or having a stiff neck, muscles in your neck and upper back are situated relatively nearby the nerve systems that lead to your brain so if they are pressing on the nerves they can be painful. My current girlfriend is dealing with that. She is going to be getting new pillows hopefully to be more adjusted to her neck height while she sleeps so that it isn't pushed out of a normal range.
And as for the getting jarred that was a question relating to back when I was in middle school I was playing a game of basketball (like in a league and stuff, not just pick up) and I was trying to round a corner while dribbling against a guy who was just as big as me but he was pushing against me hard enough that it'd be a foul. So when I was done making the corner and was going to go straight, I decided just remove all of my force pushing him back and essentially he just shoved me really hard to the floor and I slid like 5 yards or something. It didn't hurt because I knew it'd happen and I got back up and didn't think much about it. That was until later on I started getting these consistent really painful headaches. As it turns out my vertebrae in my neck got slightly pushed out of wack in that incident and two of the vertebrae were pinching a nerve.
Yeah, headaches can be caused by all that. My ex-girlfriend at one point was dealing with migraines that were caused by her eating fast food cheeseburgers for some reason. Once they were cut out of her diet she never really had migraines again.Taalit wrote:I do usually wake up pretty stiff, I have to twist around and stretch and stuff. That's been pretty much a regular thing for a long while. I've been eating the same type of stuff lately, so no to the change in diet. I don't believe I've been jarred around at any time.
Can headaches really be caused by that? I didn't know that; It could certainly be the right explanation!

Well I don't play sports, and I generally keep track of my diet, so I think it's probably the sleeping thing. Maybe I should consider getting new pillows as well, since the ones I have now might as well be rags-the stuffing in them is totally beat. I have had the same mattress pretty much my entire life, also.

Re: rant board
My dad would rant about how I have no musical abilities and I don't want to play the guitar, but when I show him my drawings,he would say "oh,nice drawing" as if I was some toddler who gave him a bunch of scribbles, and he didn't want to hurt my feelings ie. as if I suck at drawing.
And then he would go on about how I'm bad at co-curricular stuff.
As if it didn't matter I was in the top class,or I'm a half step ahead of everyone else.

That's dads for you. My dad is mostly apathetic to what I do, although sometimes he gets excited from the strangest things. I wouldn't worry about co-currilar stuff, I don't have any (technically my Spannish lessons are, but they shouldn't be (it's a semi-long story), so I don't count them). The Kakama wrote:My dad would rant about how I have no musical abilities and I don't want to play the guitar, but when I show him my drawings,he would say "oh,nice drawing" as if I was some toddler who gave him a bunch of scribbles, and he didn't want to hurt my feelings ie. as if I suck at drawing.

Sounds to me like their might be more to it than that. The Kakama wrote:He said I would have hearing problems.

I could propose explanations until the cows came home. Maybe it's a control issue, and he wants to know what kind of music you're listening to. Perhaps your headphones don't insulate sound very well, and he can hear it almost as well as you can, leading him to believe you set your volume through the roof. Of course, I don't know the man, so I can't say any of that with any certainty.
What I can say about him, though, is that any Dad worth his salt (and I think your Dad is) wants his son to be happy and successful. He does what he does because he wants the best for you. Try and figure out why he acts that way, it'll help you discuss it with him so you can reach decisions that you both understand.
Of course, I'm not suggesting you just up and confront him suddenly out of the blue here. That's weird and awkward and no one wants to do that. When he does stuff like that though, just do your best to understand why and don't be afraid to discuss it with him.
Of course, take this with a grain of salt though. I've had a very stable relationship with my father, and he always accepted the decisions I made (which, granted, were not decisions that the average father would disagree with anyway), so I don't have a perfect perspective on your life. Definitely try to maintain a healthy relationship with your father though. He won't be with you forever.

Level-headed Raxas to the rescue!
But seriously, that is a wonderful description of the possibility of it not being as bad as he thinks. And also exactly what you should do. I mean my dad pisses me off so so much. He does things that annoy me. He bugs me about the most retarded stuff. But he always is trying to do the best as a dad. And make me better despite him not realizing that I'm pretty much just as good as I can be doing. (For example, when I was in high school I was a straight A student with all the hardest classes and played football, becoming 2nd team all-state, which also involved not only practicing and playing during the football season but also lifting and running every day after school. He still tried to force me to get a job during the school year. I didn't have time for that shit. But he was just trying to get me to have work experience. Not like I wasn't getting enough as I was.)
As for Trey, yeah I'd say start off with the pillows. And obviously if you just can't afford to get a new bed that is something you can't do but should be done. Because a bed should be changed at least before that. A quick search says that "the mattress industry suggest you get a new bed every 5-7 years". Obviously they might be going on the low end to sell more mattresses, but then you can switch it to 7-10 years. I bet you're older than 10.

Re: rant board
Just taking a cursory search, mattresses seem pretty expensive. I do remember my mom mentioning something about getting new pillows a couple weeks back but we haven't gotten any yet.
Also just saying, you *will* get hearing problems from using headphones frequently. I always take care to put my music and stuff relatively quiet to avoid problems like this in the future, and it's not really that difficult to hear since I'm so used to it. osteopathic.org (a reputable site, I'm sure) suggests that if you are listening at half volume, you should only wear your headphones for about an hour and 15 minutes per sitting.
