That's all I know about it too. And what exactly collapsed? The reason I've asked is that I've heard it discussed before as a single event that happened at some point.

I think it's gradual.

About layers: Sub8 and Sub9, obviously. (Most of) Sub7 seems to take part in Layer 1. I don't know about the other games, they may all very well be in different layers.
