I started learning Moral Education in school, and it is a subject from HELL.First,we have to memorize 36 different moral values and their definitions. We have to write the definition EXACTLY like in the textbook. We also have to remember keywords derived from the definition, and they can change the context of the words, and we have to memorize these changes WORD BY WORD.
Eg.
(key words)
Yakin wujudnya Tuhan sebagai pencipta alam.(Confident that God is the creator of the world)
Keyakinan wujudnya Tuhan sebagai pencipta alam.(exactly the same meaning as above)
Sentence 2 is wrong just because the suffix/prefix(es) aren't in the original.
Even a native speaker of the language would find it hard to tell the difference.
Worst of all,we MUST pass the subject.

That is not education. That is pure, useless, memorization. Utterly irrelevant and it requires no COMPREHENSION at all.

To be fair, they have "thinking skills" questions, and these questions are just brainless.
Eg.4 consequences of humans not taking care of the enviroment.
We have zero motivation for this, because as far as I know, this class of bullcrap will be over in 2 years, and we will NEVER EVER apply this in our lives or make a career out of it.
I'm just glad this is the only subject like this, but it shows the decay of our education system in the last few years(no more exams, history syllabus drastically shortened, maths and science subjects in malay ,and english is not allowed in to be spoken in some schools).

I have to teach a kid maths/science.Trouble is,he's a slow learner/easily distracted.
He's 13 and I only just managed to make him learn his 10 times tables. How do I make him learn all the times tables up to 12*12?(memorizing won't work)

You have to memorize 12th times table?

I guess it isn't, it's just that we never did.

12th times tables are easy, if you brake it down like this:
12*a = 10*a + 2*a
Works with other "hard" multiplications, too.

I understand that this is hard, and yes this style of education is bad.
But I can't agree with "useless memorization" part, this is one of the most important things in education.

Uuh, how about "no". The important part about education is understanding. Mere memorization
is useless if you don't get what you learn.
