Please, remember that in sub5, it's called wisdom gems (in the inventory); in sub7, we get a separate "energy gem", which, I think, has the same content as the glowing box; however, in sub9, we encounter the name "wisdom gem" again.

Remember our player is a wisdom gem expert. No way our player can mess it up.

One possible explanation is that the wisdom gem and the energy gem has different power and/or differs in their method of manufacture. The following three pictures depict basically the same item.

Nothing particularly important, per se, but there's a pertinent inter-game easter egg that did rather confuse the JayIsGames commenters...

I found it! it was the first thing I tried when I saw the machine
