basically when you signed the paper, some sort of "spell" sent a message to foras tordas telling them that you signed the paper or something.

command: put message carrier, key, beacon, detector, explosive cube (x1), lighter, blade, timepiece,currency, map, vial, and favor into carry on, and put books, staff, clothes, and essentials into transport.

(Might not want to stick those essentials in there. You're not gonna see them for a few weeks, they are being transported across-unlike your carry on)
