It's actually based on that note we find in Sub 8, the one that says, 'whenI ask for an explanation, he drew me this'.

This one just goes more into details, with the black voids being the damage caused by Murtaugh, the little black cube groupings being the Root, the lines being layer lines, and the ruler slides on the left being an underground measurement.
