I guess I learnt a lot from Mateusz's livestreams. And having a reference like SubWiki helps
I did another room last night in the end. It looks like this now:
the machine ended up more in the style of Abandoned rather than Submachine. It probably needs moar cracks and marks aND ENTROPY AND DESTRUCTION

Well, as I imagined it, it's supposed to open the circular hatch to access the karma portal below. You find a paper with markings in another location, scan it using the lower slot, the machine reads it and sends a message to the automatic opening system using the antenna.
