The image on it is the Aztec Calendar which is commonly known as the Piedra del Sol or the Sun Stone. It is dedicated to the Fifth Sun, Tonatiuh, the god guarding over our era. The Aztecs believed that the world had ended four times already, and a different Sun God looked over us for each.
