Vortex wrote:The CIR one is a little... I don't know how to explain it, it lacks a "background" or "substance" that joins the sounds together over it. Like gusts of air or a single note. Normally Submachine ambients have a background with scattered beat sounds over it, sometimes very faint or appearing at times. This one seens to rely only in the beat sounds, and it sounds too rhythmic and disjointed to me. Especially for an open air location like this one.
I was hoping someone would pick up on this!

I agree completely, most Submachine ambients have that background to back them up. It's one of the first things I noticed when I played through the Universe for the first time.

I made this one the odd one out of the eight samples on purpose; it's an experiment to see how one would react without that supportive background. When I paired them up, I found myself focusing more on the Void than usual, which to me seemed to make the Void more, I don't know, "intimidating"?

Ever try playing Submachine without the ambient music? It's a very different feel. It feels much more like I'm really by myself in the net. This sample is a compromise between full ambient and total silence.

As for the rhythm, maybe it doesn't fit completely into Submachine, but I still like it :D

So in short, I agree with your opinion, Vortex, and I'm glad you enjoy the other two! The rest of the samples are all pretty different from each other, and I hope I can continue to get your input and that of others as they come out :D

Hm, so it was a test huh? :P It's true that the disjointness of the song makes the Void feel more prominent, now that you say it. I didn't mean to imply that I don't like it, it feels different to the ordinary ambient but I quite like the rhythm too :)

Looking forward to hear the other ambients, and see their locations :D

I remember old Project of mine were I made a interactive file for exploring fan made locations of Subnet, the only thing I remember I put on it was an intro with pictures of a mover made by Rulocore, a location which looked like a broken stone corridor made by Redafro, and a Karma Portal which leaded to Vortex's location 032, it even had a note were I put Sublevel first explosion ever recorded! XD

But that was abandoned long time ago, and I no longer have my file in my comp, because it would be incompatible with my current programs...

Here's the newest addition!
Somehow I missed it yesterday, sorry.

I love it! It's amazing how believable it is, it could perfectly fit in the Subnet. I also like how you blended Sub2 and Sub6, both in the location and in the song. It's quiet and unnerving like in Submachine 6, but it also has a Lighthouse feel. I'm very happy with this one :D

I also like the beamer thing to the right. It reminds me of my avatar a little :P what's its purpose?

Not sure just yet. It might reappear in another room :D

Just in case it's not clear, the beamer is activated by the terminal switches. Left and right first, then the center.

Sublevel, I thought you in particular might appreciate this location, and I guess I was right!

which you better, because I used almost an entire orange colored pencil in the process...XD

Also, you should be able to download the samples if you want, to see how they loop together.

Happy 100th Page!!!!
