Inspired by the disappearance of my portemonnaie, I developed a (totally serious) theory on why stuff on earth vanishes. Murtaugh is actually a Kleptomaniac. He was gifted in some way and created Submachine to have a hideout that is very hard to find and near impossible to escape. He can act totally unobtrusive as he just places Karma portals in pockets, houses, etc. that are linked to a KleptoPortal somewhere in Submachine. All the deadly traps are just there to kill everyone who dares to enter the hideout (except Liz and Einstein, who are both Co- Kleptomaniacs). The explaining pillars and the tombs in Submachine 9 are staged by him as well as the Research groups, the notes etc.; he is ashamed of his obsession and wants to blanket it!

As he is a Kleptomaniac, most of the stuff is actually needless for him, but I think that he buys some SubBeer at Karma-Murts from the stolen money. Plus, he collects socks. But only individual socks that come from a Karma Portal in your tumbler. (I think this sock collection is what we will see at the end of Sub10. In Black and withe. And with Shiva.)
