Edit: you know, you guys really impress me. I think I've seen almost every regular from the European continent make a comment about family being the point of the holiday. I don't know if it is my numb introversion, or if I've succumbed to the American Stuffism more than I realized, but that isn't how I've felt. While I enjoy the time off, I often find all the long drives, crowding, and never having a moment to myself very exhausting. I always feel just a bit cheated when I don't get at least a few hours a day to myself. So, that unfortunately has been my focus most of this holiday season: "how can I just get a few hours by myself for crying out loud." But to hear so many of you talk about the importance of family has really put that attitude to shame. You guys are pretty deep for a bunch of introverted submachiners. XD JK
Oh it was similar to me, I love my family, but, man, I was spending too much time with them so I was desperately trying to find a way to be with my friend(s) a little. I succeeded, they let me celebrate New Year outside, which shocked me a bit, and it was good. And the family being the point of the holiday? Why? I think all the days of the year are for being with your family if you feel like it. Holidays are for resting and fun. With whoever you want.

Yep, we basically just say that for show. I spent new year's eve with my family. It was exceptionally boring.

Why didn't you do what I did, celebrate it with someone else?

I did. Unfortunately, he left for a party around 10 and only told when he arrived at my house.
Nearest friends except him live in villages 10 km from here and it was windy as fuck and rained so I nope'd on the possibility of biking there. Basically I just stayed up and talked to DT until he had to leave. Then I talked with my parents and their friends for some time.

Well, I live in a town so it was easier for us to get together I guess.

I know what you mean. It of course depends on how regularly you see your family anyway.
When you still live at home because Uni is literally 15 mins away and your mother needs you around to help look after your younger brother and sister and to help with a load of other things, Christmas can be quite an overbearing and stressful time.
But I don't think you're missing something great anyway.
Ahaha, well there's a blatant lie. =P

@The Kakama: You know, you've got very good perspective skills. And it goes well with your sketchy-but-detailed style.

Here is my cheezy decision to update my avatar. I of course messed up and made it too big, then had to shrink it, then had to clean it up. :/

Ha! Yep. I was playing with the idea of making a Mur kinda like that, only less cartoony with a blazing blue karma arm and a blue karma glint in his eye. XD
