A friend of mine tried that last year, he didn't manage to finish. I've tried writing a few novels myself, they didn't get far before I abandoned them. I do think however that if I tried again I would get much further than my previous attempts.

I suppose so. When I think of a good story for a novel and want to write it after some time it begins to seem overly ambitious...
