Little help with ideas to explain why it affects particular areas?
The force of the incident was significantly stronger in particular areas due to innumerable variables in atomic composition (or something) that resulted in dimensional distortion. This, however, is only a theory and the actual cause of the distortion in such areas remains unknown.

Problem: if we're trapped in some kind of limbo bubble which nothing can escape
A) How do we escape?
B) Wouldn't we run out of air?

A) I believe that's the purpose
B) Some plants would solve that problem

I'm not exactly sure if the whole facility is trapped in the bubble or just certain areas though...

Not necessarily.
Maybe the android (are we happy with a an exposition?) just gives that theory to the player after he's given the pep talk for chucking a rock in.

Air? Maybe we could leave that to a room where we need to check our supplies? Or should we just have fans buzzing? :)

about the air, I don't think that's a problem, if the building is large enough.

Why would we need reagion-specific distortion? Since the building's anyway in limbo, can'twe just have it surrounded by a void?

Perhaps we should settle this dispute reagrding the gameplay before development gets too far in either direction?
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss, if the old boss had been an octahedron, which they weren't.

It sounds a lot like A'LLUKIN, so I wouldn't recommend it.

but then we need a pretty big source of light, if not they can't do photosynthesis and produce it.

surrounded by void? i don't see how's that a distortion then? are you sure you didn't just mean teleport or so?

maybe I didn't follow all the discussion well, but I feel like I'm missing something :/

Well, with a void srrounding the facillity, there would be no need for any distortion, including the region-specific kind.

And abacus, it wouldn't have to be at all similar. If we let a large enough chunk of the ground get ripped along with the facility, cut the player of from the surface, and only let them observe the void (which should be featureless and dark) through a surface camera or two, that particular issue could be easily overcome.

Okay, who supports the idea of the more complex and unique gameplay provided by the concept of the player being an AI of sorts, as described in my post few pages back? Those who do not, please submit an as detailed as possible motivation.
