I don't like to make huge posts full of images, prefer just to post links, but right now DA and FA are being a bit funny for me. Don't know if it's the same for other people so I'll just post the images instead.

For our final year Uni project we've got to create a 10 minute game demo. Obviously the more polished off and though out it is the better marks we get. We've got just under a year before we're starting the project so naturally I thought it best to get started on it over the summer. =P
For a few weeks now I've just been sketching and doodling the main character's face again and again to get it into memory, so it's easy to draw later on. Here's a few pages of me testing out her design and expressions.

My scanner's not the best and Photoshop's resizing just seems to have destroyed that last one. Shame because it's me favourite one.
Also I still haven't got a ref sheet done for her body and outfits. I'd like to kill two birds with one stone on that one and have an action pose that allows me to create a proper ref sheet which I can just pull the outlines out into Flash or Photoshop, then draw over it with the outfit designs... hence why I need a pose which also shows off outfit detail clearly. So if anyone knows of a decent pose archive or tutorial on outfit design I'd owe you big time. (Looking at you Sunday and AK. =P )

Also here's an animation I did in my Uni class last year. Finally tidied it up a bit and uploaded it.

I won't create massive posts again, I promise.

Thanks guys. I appreciate it. =)

Yep. =P
The eyes are the most expressive feature on a person's face. It's something like 80% of the time you can tell an expression just from the eyes. So the last thing you'd want to do when drawing is have them covered up unless you're specifically going for an obscured view of the expression.
It's also one of the (very) few things I like about anime.

It's the same concept when applied to older video games too; remember back in Pokemon, Legend of Zelda and the others like that... all the characters had heads the same size if not bigger than their bodies. That's because if you have a game where the tiles are 16 x 16 pixels then you have a very limited amount of space for the character, and you have to prioritise the face as it's basically the only thing that can express emotion. Thus you have to sacrifice space for the body and make the head bigger; creating what's called in the games industry a Super-Deformed Sprite.
The more you know. =)

It's the same thing; preservation of expression. And seeing as the game I want to make is pixel grid-tiled based (Sorry to disappoint, Mat) it's important to preserve the expression as much as possible. Though I think, because we're no longer limited to 16 bit machines, I'll be able to shift the tile space up to about 40 x 40 pixels.

I'm sorry that I just shoveled all that into your face.
Again, thanks for the praise guys. =)

Those are awesome sketches. No, seriously. You should consider doing comic works or something like that.
